What is Application Test Engineer ?

TekNoSys is looking for a detail-oriented Application Test Engineer to help ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of our software applications. You will work closely with development, DevOps, and product teams to validate features, identify defects early, and contribute to delivering stable and high-quality releases.

This role focuses on functional testing, automation, API validation, and continuous testing within CI/CD pipelines, making quality an integral part of the development lifecycle.

It’s an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers who want to build strong expertise in modern QA practices, automation, and DevOps-enabled testing.

What does Application Test Engineer do?

Test Planning & Execution

• Create detailed test plans, test cases, and test scenarios based on business and technical requirements.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, and system testing of web, mobile, and backend applications.
• Validate new features and ensure existing functionality remains unaffected after changes.

Test Automation

• Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium, JUnit/TestNG, Cypress, or similar frameworks.
• Automate repetitive test cases to improve coverage and efficiency.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous validation.

API & Backend Testing

• Test RESTful APIs and backend services using tools like Postman, Swagger, or REST Assured.
• Validate request/response flows, data integrity, and error handling.
• Perform database validation and basic SQL queries when required.

Performance & Reliability Testing

• Conduct basic performance and load testing using JMeter, LoadRunner, or similar tools.
• Identify bottlenecks and collaborate with teams to improve application responsiveness and stability.

Defect Management

• Identify, document, and track defects using JIRA or other issue-tracking systems.
• Provide clear reproduction steps, logs, and impact analysis.
• Work closely with developers to verify fixes and ensure closure.

Collaboration & DevOps Support

• Participate in sprint planning, requirement reviews, and design discussions.
• Work with DevOps teams to enable automated testing in deployment pipelines.
• Support UAT and production validation during releases.

Documentation & Quality Standards

• Maintain test documentation, reports, and coverage metrics.
• Contribute to improving QA processes, standards, and best practices.
• Promote a “shift-left” testing culture within the team.

Continuous Learning

• Stay updated with emerging testing tools and automation practices.
• Explore AI-powered testing assistants and smart automation frameworks to enhance productivity.

Requirements

What are we looking for and what does it require to be Application Test Engineer?

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 0–2 years of experience or internship in software testing or QA.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and testing lifecycle (STLC).
• Basic programming/scripting knowledge preferred.

Testing & Automation

• Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or similar tools
• JUnit/TestNG or equivalent frameworks
• Test case design and execution

Performance Testing

• JMeter, LoadRunner, or similar tools

API & Tools

• Postman, REST Assured, Swagger
• JIRA or other bug-tracking systems

Scripting / Programming

• Basic knowledge of Java, Python, or JavaScript
• SQL for database validation
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail and quality mindset
• Logical thinking and structured testing approach
• Effective communication and teamwork
• Willingness to learn automation and modern tools
